Joe Richardson - Guitar, Harp, Vocals
*** *** ***
This CD is by far the finest Joe Richardson
release to date. Stripped Down is hauntingly intimate in it's
bare bones blues style. Gorgeous and multidimensional, Joe's
musical expressions are never predictable and always insightful.
This collection of songs displays Joe's remarkable vocal abilities
in ways that are often witnessed only in his live performances.
In a review of Joe's first release with Viewpoint Records, Joe
was described as one of the few truly gifted innovators. This
is strongly apparent in this, his third Viewpoint release.
In the ten years that I have worked with Joe it has been my
privilege to witness the creation of hundreds of songs. all
of them enticing, all of them waiting to be preserved. Every
song on this CD is a Joe Richardson original with the exception
of Lonely Times, which was written nearly 15 years ago by Joe's
father. Finally, it has found it's proper place on this collection
of masterpieces. These timeless stories could only be accompanied
by timeless guitars, with the exception of the Wonker -Donker
of course, a one stringed instrument built in the studio specifically
for the Leprechaun song.
The vintage guitars featured are a 1964 Gibson
J-50 flat top, a 1937 Martin R-18 f-hole arch top, a 1941 Gibson
ES-125, a 1943 National Trojan wood body, and a 1932 metal body
Dobro. All Joe Richardson songs have what I like to call 'gems'
in them, a special part that you look forward to hearing, this
disc is absolutely rich with them, and will certainly spend
long lengths of time in your player. I hope that you enjoy it
as much as I have.
